DVD Home Theater System for iPod w/HDMI speakers not working. Help?

I am only getting sound sound out of my front left and front right speakers when I play my iPod and DVD’s. I have wired the other speakers correctly which include the subwoofer, center speaker, and the right and left rear speakers. I was wondering how I could get those working? Are they broken?

Best way to hook up home theater system?

Okay so I decided to go with the Pioneer HTP-2950DV 860W 5.1-Ch DVD Home Theater System.
It isn’t HDMI, but spent much less than I wanted to and heard good things about this system. The speakers are much better than my current ones.
